Controlled by the South West Lakes Trust the three-acre elongated triangular shaped Darracott Reservoir offers some excellent and varied fishing. The venue has depths to as much as 27ft by the dam wall, getting progressively shallower towards the other end and houses carp topping out at around the 27lb mark with varied quantities of other species.

Carp are caught to traditional legered hair-rigged halibut pellets of varying sizes or boilies; other baits to try include sweetcorn or meat. Another option for the carp is that they do respond to surface fished baits like dog biscuit or bread crust, especially towards the shallower end of this water and more so in the summer months.

Tickets are in advance only. Day permits are priced at £6 for adults and £5 concessions. 24 hour tickets are £11. Season tickets are also available from local tackle shops; Summerlands Tackle, EX39 1LF (01237 471291) and Bideford TI Centre, EX39 2QQ (01237 477676).

To get there, from Great Torrington take the B3232 to Moortown. Turn left here and bear right at Coombe Cross heading towards Huntshaw. Go down here and turn right at the sign, through the locked gate to the fishery and car park.
