Platts Lane, Burscough, West Lancs

Posted 10-03-2009 at 09:59 PM by reeca

Had an interesting session here last week (mid-August 09). As usual, I was fishing my 5m whip using corn in the margins. There wasn't much happening, so just out of curiosity, I started dropping a few grains of corn in the swim right under my feet.

It was about three foot deep, and clear. Within about half an hour, there were five carp all pushing double figures mulling around eating the corn. They saw me, but weren't spooked and they kept coming back to feet whenever I put...

Platts Lane, Burscough, West Lancs

I fish here regularly, and have had my best results fishing sweetcorn in the margins with my five metre whip. Maggots catch well if you're after roach and perch and the odd skimmer, but corn will catch carp and tench.

I fished here in the middle of June and caught two carp around 7 or 8lb each, as well as a good tench and a decent sized roach. The bailiff told me that they have matches on the lake every tuesday, with over 20 anglers competing, and he says they are lucky to get three...

Sephton Farm, Burscough, Jul 09

Posted 09-25-2009 at 11:00 PM by dave u

I went back to Sephton Farm the following week, this time to fish the big lake. I got there around 3pm, just in time to see the the fella in the next swim land a decent Mirror of around 5lb. As I was setting up, he pulled in another, this time a lovely Ghostie that looked around 7 or 8 pound.

I opted to fish the waggler using corn, and didn't do too badly, although all I could catch were skimmers. I'd set my heart on landing a carp, as I hadn't caught one in over a year. So I...

Sephton Farm, Burscough, Jun 09

Posted 09-25-2009 at 10:57 PM by dave u

I ended up at Sephton Farm quite by chance. I'd planned a day's fishing at my usual haunt, Platts Lane in Burscough, only to find out that they had a match on there and it was closed to the public for the day. I'd driven past Sephton Farm a few weeks earlier, and called in to have a quick look. So with Platts Lane not an option, I jumped in the car and drove the extra ten minutes down the road to Sephton Farm.

Upon getting there I had a choice of two lakes. There's a small lake...

Pendle View Fishery, nr Clitheroe, August 09

I fished the match lake in August 2009, and although it poured down with rain pretty much the entire day, I had an enjoyable time and caught some nice fish. I had four carp between 4-8lb, as well as bream, tench and even a perch. All were caught on meat ledgered in the margins. My dad fished the waggler in the margins, and had four carp between 6-10lb, three of them on meat and the other on corn.

It's a terrific...
